This volume contains a collection of critical reflections by
teachers and administrators in open and distance education. They
highlight educational problems and issues of a more general nature
caused by the increased use of distance education within
conventional higher education institutions.
In a paved garden outside time, the Doctor is presented with an
awful prophecy: the conquest of all time by the Daleks. To prevent
this terrible fate, the Time Lords have decided on a radical course
— to weaponise time themselves, and destroy the Daleks before
they were ever created. And they want the Doctor to carry out this
extraordinary task! Soon, he and his companions Sarah and Harry are
on the battle-ravaged planet Skaro, where a war has been raging for
centuries. The war is now waged by teenagers using the last
surviving weapons. Everything is desperate. But the Kaled’s chief
scientist has a new weapon that he thinks might just change
everything… This is the original version of what became Genesis
of the Daleks - the TV classic voted best story of all time by
readers of Doctor Who Magazine. CAST: Tom Baker (The Doctor), Sadie
Miller (Sarah Jane Smith), Christopher Naylor (Harry Sullivan),

On Skaro, the home world of the Daleks, the Doctor encounters the
militaristic Movellans - who have come to Skaro on a secret mission
- whilst his companion Romana falls into the hands of the Daleks
themselves. It soon becomes apparent that the Daleks have returned
to their abandoned home city with a crucial objective, one which
they hope will give them the advantage in a strategic war. When the
Doctor realises what the Daleks are up to, he is compelled to
intervene. But he has not bargained for the Movellans having a few
secrets of their own, and soon he, Romana and the human refugee
Tyssan are wondering who exactly they can trust. Moreover, will
they be able to avert the Daleks from their self-proclaimed
destiny? Lalla Ward narrates this classic full-cast TV adventure,
written by Terry Nation, and in a special bonus interview she
recalls her time as Romana in the BBC TV series. 2 CDs. 1 hr 58

Double bill of classic 'Doctor Who' television serials. 'Invasion
of the Dinosaurs' (1975) is the last storyline to feature Jon
Pertwee as the Doctor. When a group of scientists who want to
return the Earth to a time before technology use dinosaurs to try
and force people to flee the cities, the Doctor and Sarah Jane
Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) set out to stop them. In 'The Android
Invasion' (1975) the Doctor (now played by Tom Baker) and Sarah
Jane believe that they are back on Earth when the TARDIS lands near
what seems to be a peaceful English village. But why is the local
pub deserted? And who are the spacesuit-wearing figures with guns
for fingers? The intrepid pair set out to discover the truth.

his future. Hijacking the Liberator, the most advanced spacecraft

Survivors of a global plague battle for life on an empty planet. A
gripping vision of a post-apocalyptic world... 'A fine piece of
British post-apocalyptic fiction' 'Nation's novel is based on his
original cult series...and is all the better for it, being far, far
more gritty and realistic' SUNDAY SUN A virus has wiped out 95 per
cent of the world's population in just a few weeks, leaving the
remaining 5 per cent to stay alive in a world devoid of the most
basic amenities - electricity, transport and medicine. The few
survivors of the human race are forced to fall back on the most
primitive skills in order to live and re-establish some semblance
of law and order. Abby Grant, widowed by the plague, moves through
this new dark age with determination, sustained by hope that her
son, who fled his boarding school at the onset, has survived. She
knows she must relearn the skills on which civilisation was built.
With others, she founds a commune and the group return to the soil.
But marauding bands threaten their existence. For Abby, there's a
chance for a new life and love when she encounters James Garland,
the fourteenth Earl of Woodhouse, who is engaged in a desperate
fight to save his ancestral home. But more important, she must find
her son.
The entire second season of the 1970s BBC sci-fi series.
'Redemption' sees Orac's prediction of the Liberator's destruction
looking likely to be fulfilled when the ship's original owners
arrive and take the rebels prisoner. In 'Shadow', Blake becomes
involved with an interplanetary crime syndicate. 'Weapon' sees
Blake and crew set out to steal a deadly 'delayed-effect' gun,
which Servalan also wishes to possess. In 'Horizon', the Liberator
heads for the edge of the Galaxy, only to be taken prisoner on the
planet Horizon. 'Pressure Point' sees Blake attempting to destroy
the Federation's control centre, only to walk into a trap set by
Travis. In 'Trial', Travis is made a scapegoat by Servalan for
their failure to capture Blake. 'Killer' sees Blake and his crew
stumbling upon a derelict spaceship whilst on a mission to crack
the Federation's new transmission code. The craft houses a deadly
plague which could threaten the existence of the entire universe.
In 'Hostage', Travis tries to trap Blake by kidnapping his cousin,
Inga. 'Countdown' sees Blake and crew coming to the aid of the
planet Albian, whose population are dying from radiation poisoning.
In 'Voice from the Past', a telepathic signal forces Blake to
reroute the Liberator to an asteroid where Travis lies in wait.
Whilst 'Gambit' sees Blake, Cally and Jenna visit a gambling world
to find the man who knows the location of the Federation's Star
One. Avon and Villa, meanwhile, choose to take Orac on an illicit
gambling spree. In 'The Keeper', Blake tries to obtain the key to
Star One from a tribal chief on the planet Goth. However, Travis
has beaten him to it. Finally, 'Star One' sees Blake at last launch
his attack on the Federation's headquarters, unaware that an alien
fleet is poised to invade.
